Cortezas
(2017)
This project features four ceramic pieces fired at high temperatures in stoneware. It emerged from a meticulous collection and observation of the fallen bark from a eucalyptus tree over a century old (Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehn). In examining the bark, I couldn’t help but reflect on the passage of time and the bark’s history: first, it was part of the living tree, moist and encircling it; then, it dried, wrinkled, and twisted, approaching its integration with the earth. Can the essence of this bark be preserved? Perhaps clay and fire can help retain that essence, transforming it into a new form of existence.
